Four Brothers: A Story of Love and Sacrifice

A long time ago, there lived a family of four brothers along with their parents. Their father was a woodcutter. The parents of these brothers were dead in an unbelieving accident. Now the eldest brother, who was called as Aqif, took responsibility of his younger brothers. At that time, the eldest brother was twelve years old. He used to go to the woods for cutting woods with his father, so he carried onto the profession of his father. The eldest brother loved his brothers more than any person or anything in this world. He started to work harder and harder to give his brothers the best food, clothes and education.

Time went by, the boys who were in their early childhood were now grown into young macho men. All this time the younger brothers used to see their big brother working hard from dawn to dusk, in all conditions of his body. They used to look at the cuts and bruises of his brother, this acted as motivation for them to study hard and become successful and serve their eldest brother for his sacrifices and all the love he had given to them.

In their village, there was a rule that if the eldest member of the family falls terminally ill or becomes mentally unstable then the government would give other family members a huge amount of gold coins and a cart. The younger brothers heard it when they were wandering here and there to get a job with reasonable salary. Their minds started to change, they thought their elder brother has already spent all of his life doing nothing but just cutting woods, if we follow the same path we will also end up as him, gaining nothing from this youth and earning nothing for our old age. In a nutshell, they decided to spread the word about their brother being paranoid. On the other hand, the big brother, Aqif, was away as he had decided to trade his wood and wood made toys, utensils and other things to other towns nearby to secure the future of his young ones.

Meanwhile the greedy younger brothers were preparing to send their big brother to a shelter home for psychos and practicing playing pitiful for receiving the money, while their brother was working hard to secure a happy and prosperous future for his brothers. The eldest brother was kind by nature. When he was travelling from one town to other, a strange thing happened. An old lady was always there when he was having food or drinking water. She used to ask him something to eat or drink, he gave the food to her without noticing that it was the same woman everywhere!

One day while he was sleeping, that old lady came to him and asked him for food. He had one last piece of loaf which he saved for the next day’s mealtime. But looking at the old lady, he could not help but giving that piece of loaf to that lady. To his surprise, that old lady turned into a beautiful and cute fairy. He was stunned and so shocked that he started trembling and fainted. The fairy woke him up. When he believed that it was actually happening after a few more times of trembling, sweating and fainting, the fairy asked him to make one wish and it will be fulfilled at the moment. Aqif, without any second thought, said

“Please, make sure my brothers live happily as all of their wishes are fulfilled.”

The fairy inquired, “Are you sure?”

He said, “No need of thinking twice.”

The fairy now had tears in her eyes. Aqif asked her,

“What is the matter? Why are you tearing up? Did I say or do something to hurt you?”

She said, “No. You did nothing to hurt me but still made me cry.”

Aqif asked in a bewildered way, “I? How did I……”

The fairy cut him off, saying, “If I tell you one thing, will you trust me on that matter? I am a fairy and we can never lie, if we do, we will be turned into a stone exactly on the moment when anyone of does,” Aqif was all ears, so she continued, “If I tell you that your younger brothers are off the track, will you believe me? They are spreading the rumors that you have lost your brains, you have gone mad and this has been going on for the last five years and they have been trying their best to cure you and to control you. But now you have gone out of their management and have run away from home. They are doing all of this to get the benefits that the family members of a mad person get in your village.”

He listened all of it very carefully, and then exploded into laughter. “Good one, little fairy,” He said.

The fairy argued that she is not lying, as it continued, he became furious. “Enough of it, please.” He said.

The fairy said, “So you don’t believe me, right? Then let’s do that. I will become a physician who will have a lot of money and spread posters and flyers in your village that I need a psychologically ill person of this age and traits (same as of Aqif’s) You will be right there but no one will be able to see you and you will see all of the happenings. So, buck up young boy.”

He first said no but as the fairy pestered him, he agreed.

The next week passed by, all the set up was ready to go according to the fairy’s plan. As she expected Aqif’s younger brothers came as soon as they got the news. Aqif was stunned to see them, he was right there, standing beside them but they couldn’t see him. They started making up all the fake stories about their brother’s madness, to prove that he was the right person for the physician to choose among all the candidates. The fairy then said to his brothers,

“I think he surely is the perfect one to choose. Let me tell you, he might die during this experimentation.”

They looked worried for a while, Aqif smiled at the fairy, then one of them said after discussing it over with the other two,

“Will we, still get the money if he dies during the process?”

The fairy, now the physician, replied, looking at the teary and hopeless face of Aqif,

“Don’t worry you will get all the all the money in advance. Are you sure of your decision? If you are, then please sign the deed of agreement and you can receive the payment as soon as you get your eldest brother here.”

The brothers took a sigh of relief and signed the contract in no time. Now the fairy was all alone with Aqif, she said,

“What now?” Aqif replied, “What else, do what the physician wants to do, perform experiments on me, kill me and please give them a handsome amount of money as you promised them.” The fairy was angry and shocked at the same time at his reply, so she left out furiously. In her mind, she had decided to help him no matter what. She thought and thought, and then came to the decision that he can be happy only if his brothers start to love him the way they did before. So, she finally decided to gave all of them a happy ending, contrary to what she had planned to do before Aqif’s reply. She asked help from her other fairy friends.

Now she and her friends turned into a family exactly the same as that of Aqif’s. She re-enacted all the story from start till the end but this time she made sure that the younger brothers of Aqif see what their brother did for them despite earning money. She depicted how Aqif used to remain awake all the night, often, to do the chores, preparing food, preparing clothes and other things for them just like a mother. Then she showed how he used to cut wood from morning to night continuously without resting. She showed how their brother never made friends to avoid getting distracted. She displayed an exact illustration of the fact that Aqif played the role of a mother, a father, a brother and a friend for them, and also how he has forgotten himself till the very end. The younger brothers saw all of it, as this play was for them to watch and realize their mistake. They were waking up, and feeling extremely sorry and ashamed of what they did and planned. They started to find their elder brother anxiously here and there, town to town.

Finally, one night the fairy and his friends, entered into the home of those brothers and showed them the truth about them. The little fairy also told them how she met his brother and all the story from start till end. Now she gave them one wish to ask for.

They immediately said, “Please bring our brother back to us.” She was so happy at this and she moved her hand, swayed the magic stick in the air and whispered her magic words. In no time, their brother was back to them and they asked for forgiveness with tears in their eyes. He forgave them right at the moment.

The brothers thanked the fairy and his friends, the fairies said good bye to them. Now the younger brothers started to work arduously and make their brother rest completely at home. Within one year, they found jobs at the royal palace because the teachers their brother found for them were the best at that time and they had also worked hard from the beginning to provide their elder brother the best and peaceful life.

Now they had all the blessings of life and they were living a happy, satisfied and composed life. They were always happy and thanking God no matter what phase of life they were in. Soon, the younger brothers found a beautiful lady for their eldest brother and tied their knot. To their surprise, their sister-in-law had three pretty sisters, with whom the other three brothers fell in love and got married soon.

My words:

This is a fantasy in which their appears a fairy and turns it into a happy ending but in real life it does not happens, once you lost a person due to your selfishness, foolishness or spur of the moment, he/she will be gone, We won’t be able to turn that person back into our lives, he/she might not exactly die but that particular person would no more appear in your story or your world, and conclusively you might loose a loyal, loving and honest person of your story. That person might be anyone, your father, your mother, your brother, your sister, your wife, your husband or your friend. So, figure out what important and beautiful character of your story is being ignored, being harassed by you or being extremely hurt by you or your words and behavior and is soon going to fade due to your negligence and high level of self-love. Love them before they or their true feelings vanish.

Please, love them before they leave

Go and beg them until they say it’s alright

Love them before all the bonds cleave.

Try to change the ending with all your might
